Advanced training on the use of electronic evidence and investigation of digital property

Public prosecutors and police investigators from the Special Departments for Suppression of Corruption attended two back-to-back advanced thematic workshops organised in Belgrade from 15 to 22 May 2024, on detecting, acquiring and using electronic evidence and investigating criminal activities using cryptocurrencies and other forms of digital property.

The training was organised with the aim to further improve the techniques and skills of identification, extraction, analysis, reporting and use of electronic evidence within investigations and prosecutions of computer crimes. Through demonstrations and practical work, the architecture of IT systems and organization for data storage media, basic processes and stages of digital forensics, handling of digital evidence and maintaining the chain of custody, the most important forensic tools and guidelines for their selection, the basics of money laundering investigations using blockchain and other decentralized digital money technologies were covered.

The workshops were led by forensic investigators from digital forensics company INSig2.

The activities were implemented within the "Facility Supporting Strengthening Rule of Law in Serbia", jointly funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) - EU FOR FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AND FOR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS – implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).
